ABU DHABI WORLD JIU-JITSU YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP COMES TO A CLIMACTIC CLOSE ON DRAMATIC FINAL DAY OF COMPETITION

Abu Dhabi, UAE – 18th April 2016: In what was a dramatic final day of competition in the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Youth Championship, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, more than 345 medals were awarded to the courageous Emirati male and female youth players that stepped out onto the mat across the two-day competition.

Securing an impressive medal haul, crowds cheered as 53 Gold, 59 Silver and 95 Bronze medals were presented to the UAE teams as they dominated day two of the competition.

A memorable day for all, the final day of competition in the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Youth Championship saw the event welcome a total in excess of 1,800 players of 47 nationalities to the IPIC Arena, Zayed Sports City. On the second day of the Youth Championship, more than 1,100 male players participated in the following divisions: 668 White belts, 217 Grey belts, 125 Yellow belts, 119 Blue belts, 34 Orange belts and 16 Green belts. In a groundbreaking two days for the UAE, Abu Dhabi cemented its place as the Global Capital of Jiu-Jitsu with the best turn-out of youth players yet – a testament to the commitment of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation to fostering the growth and development of Jiu-Jitsu across the globe – with Emirati players representing an exceptional 81 per cent of the participating players.

Commenting on the overwhelming success of the UAE youth teams, the players, and the current edition of the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Youth Championship, Yousef Al Batran, board member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation:

“Today is a day of celebration as we revel in the incredible achievements of the youth players that competed in the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Youth Championship this year. With more competitors than ever going head-to-head the skill level has eclipsed previous years with those fans in attendance being treated to some truly unforgettable moments. We are especially proud of the valiant efforts of our Emirati youth players, in particular our male players today who participated as part of an impressive 1,179 players from around the world, and walked away with an impressive number of medals.”

He added, “With the stage now set for the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship we hope our male and female players in the UAE National team can emulate the success of our youth players in the new and exciting five-day Championship that starts tomorrow.”

As the winners received their medals from esteemed members of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, the deserving UAE youth players reveled in the limelight in front of home crowds.

With the two-day Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Youth Championship having come to a climactic close in Abu Dhabi, the eighth annual Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship kicks-off tomorrow for five days of non-stop action – Tuesday 19th to Saturday 23rd April – in the global capital of Jiu-Jitsu at the IPIC Arena, Zayed Sports City. Also not to be missed is the inaugural Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Legends which takes place on the final day of competition, Saturday 23rd April, and features six of the greatest Jiu-Jitsu players ever to grace the mat.

Fans can also expect to enjoy a range of activities, family events and interactive stands at the expanded IPIC Fan Zone, and with a raffle draw up for grabs there is also the chance for attendees to win a Jaguar XF – for one lucky member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation – a Jaguar XE – to be won through the ADTV programme – and a Land Rover Discovery – only for fans that register in the IPIC Fan Zone.
